There is more, however, for there are also valued reporters coming to the charming Lower Beskids on the occasion of the Zygmunt Haupt Festival.

The series of meetings will be inaugurated by Paweł Smoleński – reporter and journalist documenting events taking place in Israel, Iraq, Poland, and Ukraine. The guests of the festival also include: Michał Olszewski – in his books he shows the less-representative, but often very true and painful side of Poland; Ewa Winnicka – the author talks about Polish emigration, simultaneously painting a clear picture not only of Poles facing foreign reality, but also of UK citizens; Ziemowit Szczerek – with whom we will go on “a journey through the Polish heart of darkness, through national insecurities and fantasies, through centuries of history”; Lidia Ostałowska – the protagonist of her reportages is Poland B.; Małgorzata Szejnert – taking up the topic of small hopes and great disappointments, she entwines micro-scale history with History with a capital “H”; Angelika Kuźniak – the topics of her books are other people’s biographies, also reaching where standard short bios do not; Taras Prochaśko – the author “leads us through the pagan, political, cultural, national wilderness, called Ukraine”; Andrzej Niewiadomski – with whom we will go on a journey in the footsteps of Zygmunt Haupt, and we will draw the maps of consciousness, memory, and remembrance.

Admission to all festival events are free. Details and descriptions of all events can be found under the PROGRAM tab.

For everyone who decides to come to Gorlice and Szymbark on September 18th-27th, the organisers have prepared interesting musical program highlights.

The first concert will take place on Sunday, September 20th, at the Groblewski Manor IGiPZ PAN in Szymbark-Bystrzyca, where at 8:45PM we will hear the group LABORATORIUM PIEŚNI. The Tricity vocal band will present traditional Ukrainian, Balkan, Polish, Georgian, and Scandinavian songs, and the Groblewski Manor will be filled with the sound of ethnic instruments – shaman drums, percussion, and bells. Whereas on September 25th (Friday) at 8PM in the Gorlice Culture Centre we will listen to MISHA ALPERIN, Ukrainian pianist, composer, and arranger who is collaborating with the prestigious record company ECM. Apart from his own compositions Alperin plays jazz pieces and performs a repertoire inspired by classical and traditional music from eastern and Scandinavian countries. The festival’s last concert will be a performance by Yuri Andrukhovych with the band Karbido, presenting the ATLAS ESTREMO project. The starting point for this musical-literary show was Andrukhovych’s book of prose – “The lexicon of intimate cities.” The concert will take place in the Gorlice Culture Centre on September 26th at 8PM.
