November 2014, on the first anniversary of the Euromaidan, was when “Szcze ne wmerła i nie umrze” was published. It is Paweł Smoleński’s extensive interview with Jurij Andruchwycz, an attempt at registering the pulse of history, which now beats on the western borders of Europe. In his works (prose and essays) Andruchowycz writes down the history of Ukraine, he also asks about contemporary Europe with its arbitrary division between the East and the West. In the recently published “Zwrotnik Ukraina,” which the author edited, writers, historians, and witnesses of the Maidan events ask whether it is possible for a new Ukraine to be born, or is Ukraine becoming a victim of Russia’s imperialist dreams.
