NEW UKRAINE STUDIES – TARAS PROCHAŚKO
“Z tego można zrobić kilka opowieści” is a picture of Ukraine from the Soviet times. It is a story of one family against the background of the whole country’s history. An inspiring description of Galicia of the interwar period and during both wars. Whereas the Ukraine described in “W gazetach tego nie napiszą” is a territory locked by the Carpathian mountain massif, whose boundaries and regimes change at neck-breaking speeds. It is a riddle, a puzzle of countries, fronts, languages, a turbulent curve of occupation, liberation, and enslavement. It is also a botanical phenomenon, because the meadow of “green Ukraine” is home to several dozen completely different human species.
